Bikers up for challenges
TRAVELLING along the country roads of Dumfries and Galloway most weekends it is not unusual to meet a cluster of cyclists.
And keen Annan racer Dennis Anderson is urging even more athletes to get on their bikes and join the Annan 2010 Racing team.
Registered with the Scottish Cycling Union, the riders are of varying abilities and range from cycling sportives, time trail and triathlon competitors to those who take part in mass start road racing all over Britain and Europe.
But casual pedallers beware; this is not for the faint-hearted.
For Dennis, who used to run Andersons Racing Team, and his clan often complete routes of more than 60 miles -- departing from Annan Town Hall at 8 am every Saturday come rain or shine.
Dennis, who has been barmy about biking for a number of years, explained: “The team is made up of mainly Annan-based riders but includes good local racers from Carlisle and Dumfries too.
“While we normally do between 60 and 80 miles a day we would not discourage anyone with an interest in cycling to get in touch to see what they can do.
“And we will welcome all abilities of riders from around the area and assist them in taking cycling from the basics through to road racing level or just to increase their health and fitness.”
Apart from the Saturday morning sprint, the Annan 2010 Racing team also meet more regularly during the winter months for additional training while in the summer many members enter competitions, either as individual or club members.
