Gym club seeks new home
A BID is underway to create a permanent gymnastics centre for a burgeoning club which has just held its first annual awards ceremony.
More than 100 gymnasts, coaches, volunteers, friends and family from Dumfries Y Gymnastics Club assembled in Annan earlier this month, following the Club Championship Competition held at DG One in November.
Dumfries Y Gymnastics Club competes in regional and national gymnastics competitions throughout the year and the 30 or so talented female gymnasts come from all over the region.
The November event saw gymnasts aged six to 16 compete on two and four pieces including floor, vault, beam and bars.
Over half the gymnasts live in Annandale and Eskdale, from Annan, Eastriggs, Lochmaben, Lockerbie and Langholm, and they all attend coaching sessions three times a week in Dumfries at the David Keswick Centre and DG One.
But despite a busy year ahead, with Scottish grades and levels competitions as well as a Gymfest event, coaches are keen to train the competitive gymnasts more hours each week and searching for their own premises.
Locations are being explored in Dumfries and Annandale and Eskdale, with the hope of finding a disused building which could be converted into a dedicated, permanent gymnastic centre.
